Do you have HORRIFIC Menstrual Periods/Cramps?  If so, you may want to check this post out!

I would like start with my history…

At the age of 11 I started my first cycle.  It was a weird, unexplainable feeling at first and I remember this moment in time like it was yesterday.  Didn’t know what it was, and felt totally embarrassed. I thought the butterflies in my stomach were because of my fear to get on a roller coaster, that day.    The first couple of years, I don’t remember my cycle being as intense, as the years went on.  I think my 7th grade year is when they really started to come in like someone was stabbing me.   Each month, I would have to miss 1-2 days of school/activities because of this MONSTER!!! This resulted me into popping pills like it was candy.  I would go from the HEAVY BLEEDING, cold sweats, high fevers, vomitting, fainting, horrible pains from cramping throughout my pelvic area & legs and diarrhea.  I could barely walk upright when my cycle was happening.  I remember my mom fussing at me because I would have this funny walk when it comes on.   What’s crazy, I still kind of do it to this day because it makes me feel so weird.

On my 15th birthday, I was at school and my cycle started early that morning.  I was in my Technology Discovery class when the pain hit me abruptly!  I asked my teacher if I could go to my coaches office to get some medicine because I didn’t think I was going to make it the rest of the day.  As I was walking down the hall, one of my friend’s was passing me, wishing me happy birthday and next thing you know it, I blacked out.  I woke up to people all over me, asking me tons of questions and had to leave school early.

I have had several occasions that the pain is so intense and losing so much blood that it was too much for my body to handle.  I remember asking my mom on several occasions could I get a hysterectomy and of course, you know that answer…lol   So of course, during my pregnancy I didn’t have a period and finding out from Aunts & my Doctor, my cycle shouldn’t be as bad after giving birth.  Well I didn’t wait to find out because I got on birth control pills.  All of that really helped out but just didn’t too much care for the side effects I was having from them.   I think at the age of 24/25 I started to ween myself off of them.  As the years were passing by, the HORRIFIC symptoms were gradually making their way back, which leads to now…I am having the same symptoms all over again and have been trying to figure out what I can do naturally to help sovle these.  I have taken medications, that would put me out like a baby.  Once those wear off, then what, I feel them all over again.  NOT ONE MEDICINE OTHER THAN BC helped me with these issues.  The pain pills that I have taken mask the pain for a couple of hours and then I would have to pop more pills.

For the past year or so, I have been looking up ways to help but all they would do is calm down for a little bit.  I have been drinking Raspberry Tea w/o caffeine because it is stated it helps with the female reproductive system.  Also, using heating pads, hot towels, hot baths because I know contracting of the uterus to remove the lining is causing the muscle tension.  Still, those things weren’t allowing me to go to work.  That’s a problem with some jobs or with my clients when I can’t massage because of this.

About a month ago, I saw HeyFranHey post a video on YouTube about BlackStrap Molasses.  I also googled blackstrap Molasses and came to these several sites:

Anytime anyone suggests anything, I do my research first by finding the benefits and side effects!

So after checking out the sites & viewing HeyFranHey’s video, I found out that Blacksrtap Molasses contains a lot of nutrients and minerals.  Difference between regular molasses vs. blackstrap molasses: Blackstrap Molasses, the sugar cane goes through 3 boils which leaves those strong nutrients & minerals.  Those are great for helping release the toxins in your body.   Muscle tension is sometimes caused by an extreme buildup of unwanted toxins in the body.  So the molasses helps push those out and then is filtrated out of your system.  Also, usually with your menstrual your Iron count is much lower, blackstrap molasses has a great amount of Iron in it and can help replenish it and give you energy.  This is just a little bit of what I have read on this topic.  Again, I advise you to do your own research and get a better understanding of the body to see what fits you.  By no means am I medically certified/licensed to tell you what you need.  So try at your own discretion.

Alright, so I know you all are wondering if it worked for me?

Depending on how it falls on the 1st day I may feel some pain or discomfort.  My 2nd day is the worst day of them all!!  Everything that I explained above happens on the second day.

Ok, so I knew my cycle would be coming on the week of July 4th.  I was a little disappointed because I was going to New Orleans for Essence Fest.  So I knew I had to do something!!!  I started taking the blackstrap molasses 4 days before the actual date of my cycle.  The 1st day I put 1 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses in my Raspberry Tea.  The 2nd day, I didn’t take anything.  3rd day, I took a tablespoon of the Molasses straight.  I am telling you, don’t think about it or smell it, just do it & the texture is thick as I don’t know what!!  I drunk plenty of water afterwards. 4th day, I didn’t take anything.  My cycle started July 3, ususally I feel some nausea and discomfort but didn’t feel too much of anything.  As the day went on, I started to feel some pain and discomfort, I was out all day and wasn’t able to get home to take the Molasses.  Once I made it home, I took a tablespoon of it and drunk my Raspberry Tea.  I was able to sleep through the night with no problems.  The true test was the next day, July 4th, and we were traveling that day as well.  I was so terrified that this trip was going to be the longest trip of my life.  I woke up with some stomach pain, but nothing too bad.  I took 1 tablespoon of the Molasses and fixed a huge cup of Raspberry Tea to go.  I had several sharp shooting pains in my pelvic area and butt!! Maybe lasted a couple of hours.  I didn’t have too much discomfort while we were on the road, usually car rides on my 2nd day make me sick and I have to vomit.  None of that happened.  Didn’t have a massive feeling of diarrhea and no cold sweats or fevers.   By noon, I didn’t feel anything and the rest of my day was smooth sailing.  Throughout my cycle, I did not see any blood clots.  I didn’t have too much of a heavy flow and I was able to go on with my regular days.

I will be trying this again, but next time, make take more than one tablespoon a day.  Akina has the same symptoms as well and we will be trying it on her.  I will come back and let you all know the results.

Have any of you tried Blackstrap Molasses as a Natural Remedy for your Menstrual Cycle? If so, leave in the comments below your experiences.   Also, if you know of any other natural remedies please feel free to share!!!

  1. When I was having cycles (up until my hysterectomy last year), I also used blackstrap molasses but I added it (1 tablespoon) to a hot cup of water along with 2 tbsps of Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar and a 1/2 tbsp of raw honey. I would take this every morning at least 2 weeks prior to my cycle and most of the time, I would have no pain or very minor cramps the morning of my cycle. You can also take it every morning while your cycle is on.

Whatever apple cider vinegar you purchase, make sure it is organic and has the “mother” at the bottom. Apple cider vinegar has many benefits so you can’t go wrong adding it to your daily regimen. Also check, http://www.earthclinic.com for suggestions.

My menstrual pains in no way were as severe as yours but I’ve suggested this to others who have symptoms similar to yours and it helped them. Hope this provides some relief.

  2. I also take BSM (blackstrap molasses) after researching on earthclinic. It is great for heavy cycles, fibroids and ovarian cyst. I actually started my period a couple of days ago and immediately started downing 3 tablespoons at once, and what do you know…NO PAIN. I started initially taking the BSM a couple of months ago but was still having pain and heavy flow days, but I chalk that up to not taking enough (as I was only taking one tablespoon). This time around, however, the three tablespoons at once is working like a charm. BSM is known to shrink fibroids over time which is the main reason many women experience discomfort and very heavy periods. I’m sure within a few months my fibroids and heavy flow will be a very distant memory. And yes, organic cider vinegar works great for a host of women’s problems and just and overall great body detoxifier…a shot in the morning and evening not only cleanses your body, your energy levels are greatly improved!

    • Thanks for your input…I’m going to try taking 3 tbspn at one time…I still feel some discomfort but not as bad without taking it…

  3. This sounds like the story of my life! I starty early, prob no older than 9 or 10. I was alway given ibuprofen 600 or 800, which would help but during that time my gag reflex is insane. No bueno. I have found that using a heating pad on my stomach and lower back helps to fight them. I will definitely try the blackstrap molasses.

  4. I have severe extremely painful cycles . and started taking blackstrap molasses and apple cider vinigar 3 weeks ago. Day 1 of my.cycle and pain and bleeding is minimal. Im excited to see if this improves more over time. Im 30 and this is the first time anything has helped. Im a believer

  5. I found that removing gluten and corn helped tremendously with my horrible cramps/IBS symptoms that I have on the first day of my period. I’ve even had a few cycles were I got by without pain killers (as opposed to taking 4-5 advil at once!). I’m trying organic blackstrap molasses to help with some signs of anemia and it does seem to help reduce bleeding for the first two days of my cycle (usually day three on is a breeze).

I discovered, by accident, that drinking coffee during the first three days of my cycle seems to trigger much heavier bleeding/flooding and blood clots. Glad I figured that out because flooding is NOT fun, esp. in public places!
